It was either 13 Thursday or the Autosummarize trick everyone is talking about. Since we live in the age of instant gratification, I had to see if that autosummary really told the tale without having to read all 553 words from the first chapter. What do you think?

Postcards from the Dead.

Cassie felt defensive. Cassie hedged. Rosalie persisted. You told Kyle?” Cassie leaned across the table. “Drew pulled the annual Halloween ghost story assignment this year.” Drew narrowed his eyes at Marge. Kyle asked. Drew lifted a brow. “Pragmatic Kyle Clayton believes in ghosts?” Kyle visibly relaxed. “Everyone gets postcards.” Drew was interested now. “Cassie got a postcard from the guy. Drew sniggered. Drew rubbed his temples.

SIMPLY INCREDIBLE

Well – I’m rather breathless! I just got a contract for the other novella I’ve written! The Werewolf Whisperer was picked up by a new e-publisher, StarDust Press. I’m really happy about this. I targeted them specificaly as they don’t currently have a werewolf series on their webpage (not sure if they have any planned). . . but since TWW is book one of a planned four book series. . . well, you get the idea.

Now, I gotta go write some more and wait for the edits to come in!

Yowza!

Crystal Clear

I just received a contract for my 16K novella, Crystal Clear! I’m so excited and have done nothing but pinch myself all day to make sure I’m not dreaming~
Oh, and to celebrate, I’m running a contest (of sorts). . . just leave me a comment and on 1 April I’ll draw a name to win a crystal ball necklace.

Not Quite March Madness

I typed “The End” on the polished draft of The Werewolf Whisperer. Now, I’ll let it sit a day and then send it off to the publisher.

As a result, I gave Ms. Muse the day off. Well, the cabana boys must have gotten her romantic juices flowing! She interrupted my blissful shower this morning with not one, not two, but THREE ideas for books to follow TWW. She’s insisting I start on the first one IMMEDIATELY (and I was soooo looking forward to a nap).

Leader of the Pack: Postmistress Jazmin Carmichael is only afraid of two things, dogs and her estranged husband. So, when a sexy stranger comes to Eclipse, she has to decide if the man who shares her ex-husband’s name is there to trap her. . . or to set her heart free.

Nightmare on Main Street: A romantic horror or a horrific romance? Jessica Standish writes romance, Michael O’Toole writes horror. When they meet, sparks fly and words sizzle. But when their creations leap off the page to stalk the streets of Eclipse, they have to work together to find a way to put them back in the book. . . or fall in love trying.

Total Eclipse: Lone werewolf, Ben Rawlings, is on the run from the government that created him and from his victims. That’s when he meets sexy Christy Law, a lab tech for the CDC working on a cure for the Lycanthropy virus. Can love truly tame a savage beast?

Deep POV

I just got a comment from a member of my critique group that I need to take my writing to the next level, perhaps use some deep POV.

Gosh, I’ve been trying, really I have. . . but this is a scene from my house this evening while I’m trying to write.

My fingers are flying over the keyboard “nausea roiled in her–“
“What’s this number here?” A voice intrudes. It’s my husband, tutoring my 13 yo in math.
“314”
“What is it?”
I try to tune out their conversation, going back to my character.
“bile burning the back of her throat” I type.
“What number is it?” Now, where have I heard this conversation before. My fingers almost type 314.
“314”
“It is, is it? Looks like 3.14 to me.”
Sigh. . .and it goes on and on. . . perhaps my muse is calling me to write a math textbook.

Juggling Act (or What Was I Thinking, Part Two)

Well, I started revising Crystal Clear today. But, I’m also putting in work revising The Werewolf Whisperer as my critique group gets the chapters back to me.

It’s a juggling act, but I’m finding that revising these stories is kindof fun!

I just can’t wait to finish them, so I can start writing another. My next project will be a Regency historical — I’m not sure how hot & spicy to make it. I’m hoping my characters can take the lead on that!

What was I thinking???

Or — I’m in revision hell!

I had a revise and resubmit request from an editor. . . foolishly, I thought I could just fling in a few more scenes and resubmit. Wrong! I think this is where writing novels is so much different from short stories!

So, I started at the beginning with my snowflake outline. . . I hope to start actual writing and cutting and pasting later this week.
