Essie, The Accidental Mommy, who’s blog I stalk religiously ’cause she’s funny, informative, and did I say funny?, has thrown out the gauntlet to confess our most shameful listening habit.

What music do I have on my IPOD that I’m embarrassed to admit to. Hmmmm…Now, I do have a Barney CD on my IPOD, but that’s for the boys (really!). What I do have is a lose weight hypnotism session. I paid a small fortune for it one night when I couldn’t sleep and got hooked into watching an informercial. Yes, I dialed the 1-800 number and waited anxiously until it came in the mail. Does it work? I haven’t a clue. The session takes about 40 minutes for the first session which you are supposed to do daily for about a week. I don’t think I’ve had 40 minutes to myself on consecutive days (when I’m not banging out my word count or shopping, or….). I tried using it a couple of times right after dinner, or right before bed, but my children are psychically attached to me. If they are home and I endeavor to exclusively use my brain cells for something selfish like reading or trying to lose weight, someone throws up, breaks something, clamors for attention, etc. I thought maybe, just maybe, this year I would give it a try right after lunch and before the yobs come home from school. In fact, I thought, oh, I’ll try that today….well, best laid plans and all, I have one child home sick from school. See…it’s that psychic connection thingy going on.

So, lots of money wasted… but I swear, I will listen to it and lose weight…one day….

LMAO, Barney, that should be against the law or something! Though I do confess to having several episodes of Word World and Sesame Street also buried deep on MY ipod, just for emergencies.

Yeah, really when would 40 consecutive minutes present themselves? If I have 40 minutes in a row I'd probably take a nap anyway!

OH hell no on the Barney. That purple dino will never get any of my money ever. shudder

I have been listening to Marcus Buckingham audio books before I go to bed, which translates into me listening to them when I'm sleeping. Yes, I am that girl. The one who listens to motivational speakers while sleeping. But apparently it works, I'm motivated. lol

Yeah…Barney makes me cringe. When Drama Teen was little, my mom gave her a purple dinosaur. It would ask to be friends or for a hug…I think it had a motion sensor, because occasionally it would pipe up in the middle of the night and scare the bejesus out of me. Then, one day, it mysterious "broke" (i.e, I removed the batteries) and we had a happy truce from there on out.

Ooooooo, Erika! Was I excited! A real, live writer reading my blog! That is SO cool…and now I see you came via Essie, a writer who is worthy of anyone's attention!

I've not gotten into the real-disaster TV, but have to admit to a tiny addiction to Forensic Files and 48 Hours Mysteries…. And in the old days I did go through the romance novels! I'm not sure how I kicked that habit…probably the "colorful" covers didn't quite fit in with my churchy atmosphere….and the brown cover seemed so hypocritical.

40 minutes to do anything for myself. That WOULD be something!

My friend and I were recently talking about how involved with technology our daily lives have become. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside… I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of transferring our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about all the time.
